About POP

We're POP, a new-age fintech company making payments fun, rewarding, and worth it. With POP UPI, you earn POPcoins on every payment, real rewards redeemable across 500+ brands on POPshop, our curated D2C marketplace spanning fashion, beauty, food, and electronics.
Founded in Bengaluru in 2023, backed by Razorpay and partnered with YES Bank, we're building India's most rewarding payment experience.
The core loop we're building: Pay on POP → Earn POPcoins → Discover something you love on Shop → Redeem at 1:1 value → Come back. Credit is where that loop accelerates turning aspiration into access, and repayment into reward. That's what this role owns.

About the Role

As a Senior Android Engineer (SDE 3 Platform ) at POP, you will work at the framework layer of our Super App.  Owning reliability, security, and performance infrastructure that every product pod depends on. This is not a feature delivery role; you'll be building the foundations that make features safe, fast, and resilient at scale.
You'll work closely with the Android Staff Engineer and cross-functional platform teams to harden the app's runtime, tighten its security posture, and define performance baselines across all modules.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deliver complex Android features for POP's product pods.
  • Collaborate with backend, iOS, and design teams to ensure parity and consistency.
  • Write clean, testable, and efficient code with unit and UI test coverage.
  • Actively contribute to shared components and SDKs for cross-pod usage.
  • Profile and optimize app performance, memory usage, startup times, and render performance.
  • Mentor SDE-2 engineers and review critical code changes.
  • Contribute to release readiness by ensuring stability and crash-free builds.
  • Own crash rate, ANR, and stability SLOs across the Android app, investigate root causes, drive fixes, and prevent regressions.
  • Implement and maintain app-layer security controls: SSL pinning, certificate validation, encryption at rest and in transit.
  • Integrate and maintain root detection, anti-tampering checks, and Play Integrity API validation.
  • Own app startup time, memory footprint, jank, and rendering performance — define p50/p90/p99 baselines and track them over releases.
  • Build tooling for continuous performance profiling integrated into CI (Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto, custom metric collectors).

Requirements

  • 6–9 years of Android development experience.
  • Strong skills in Kotlin, Jetpack (ViewModel, LiveData, Room, Navigation), and exposure to Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience working with modular apps or SDK development, including dynamic feature modules.
  • Knowledge of REST/GraphQL APIs, caching strategies, and offline handling.
  • Solid debugging, profiling (Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto), and CI/CD pipeline familiarity (Gradle, Fastlane, Firebase App Distribution).
  • Familiarity with Android-specific concerns: ProGuard/R8, multidex, APK/AAB size optimization, and background task management (WorkManager, Coroutines).
  • Ability to balance technical trade-offs and business needs.
